This Sunday 24 June at the Bowling Green on Kenmure Street, MILK are involved in the Glasgow to Gaza fundraiser and solidarity day from 2pm till 8pm. There will be loads of things to see, do and eat, so please come along and show support for some really important organisations.
As seven weeks of school summer holidays stretches out before us, we thought it might be handy to gather some cheap ideas to keep families entertained.
We at MILK will be open throughout the holidays as usual, but on Tuesdays between 10am and 1pm kids of all ages will be welcome to join us for food and fun, as long as they’re accompanied. Our Saturday morning art classes for young ones will still be on from 10 to 11.30am and the £15 fee supports our free activities.
The Glasgow Life website has the details for tonnes of activities all over Glasgow, including how to book free family swimming sessions, tennis courts and football pitches.
There is a whole programme of events on at Queen’s Park Arena, with a limited number of free tickets, so book as soon as possible. From film screenings to fitness classes, there should be something for everyone!
The Burrell Collection at Pollok Park has free drop-in sessions on weekday afternoons for kids to learn about the collections, dress up and craft. Details and times here.
Southside Housing Association holds loads of regular community events, as well as a school holiday programme. This summer they will be at St Albert’s Primary School on Maxwell Drive on Thursdays from 11.30 till 1pm for lunch, games and outdoor activities. Hot drinks provided for accompanying adults.
Youth Community Support Agency (YCSA) are running a summer kids club for BME kids including asylum/refugee and new Scots 7+ throughout July. It costs £10 per week per family, though you should mention if you cannot afford this. Contact enquiries@ycsa.org.uk for details.
Big Noise will be running a music-centred holiday club for kids registered with them over July. It’s open to children who live or attend primary school in Govanhill. If you know a child who is interested in playing music they will take new registrations over the holiday period. Check their social media for details.
Tramway and the Hidden Gardens will be hosting the Glasgow Zine Fest from 2nd to 6th July. Activism, education, crafting and zine-making will be the order of the day, and families are welcome to drop in. Be sure to check out their programme of events.
Govanhill International Festival will take place from 1st to 10th August this year, and the organisers need crafters to build a giant puppet and create a street performance. P4-7 sessions and S1+ sessions are at different times regularly through the holidays, and you can find details here.
MILK is collaborating with Rumpus Room and Queer Families Glasgow on a couple of playday sessions 11am till 2pm at the Bowling Green on Kenmure Street on Friday 18th July and 8th August, more details here. Bring a picnic!
